Join the discussion about questions on whole grain foods and health messages
Intake of whole grain foods is promoted in dietary guidelines, and
regulations about definitions, messages and recommendations related to
whole grain foods are evolving. Discussions have been very lively in the US
and Canada, and also in some European countries. Now that the EU is
developing its own nutrition and health claim directives, there is demand
for activating the discussion throughout Europe.
In 2005 AACC International has established a task force to address issues
related to the promotion of whole grain food intake: production, consumer
communication, recommendations. A summary of this activity is posted on the website of
Cereals&Europe, the European section of AACC International. The summary
is accompanied by a list of current questions related to the discussed
topics.
We invite all interested stakeholders to send feedback, opinions,
information and further questions to be taken into consideration within
this activity. The input will be presented to a discussion forum during the
AACC International Annual Meeting in Hawaii 21-24 September 2008.
The discussion will be continued during an open workshop on 4 November
2008, afternoon in Paris, organised by the Healthgrain project and AACC
International/C&E.
Further developments will include another open workshop on Tuesday March
24, afternoon, as a satellite activity to the C&E Spring Meeting 2009 -
Whole Grain Global Summit (March 25-27) in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK
An update on the developments will be placed online late September.
